  ID: CR3L1_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Cyclic AMP-responsive element-binding protein 3-like protein 1; Short=cAMP-responsive element-binding protein 3-like protein 1; AltName: Full=Old astrocyte specifically-induced substance; Short=OASIS; Contains: RecName: Full=Processed cyclic AMP-responsive element-binding protein 3-like protein 1;
FUNCTION: Transcription factor that acts during endoplasmic reticulum stress by activating unfolded protein response target genes. Specifically involved in ER-stress response in astrocytes in the central nervous system (By similartity). May play a role in gliosis. In vitro, binds to box-B element, cAMP response element (CRE) and CRE-like sequences, and activates transcription through box-B element but not through CRE (By similarity).
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Processed cyclic AMP-responsive element- binding protein 3-like protein 1: Nucleus. Note=Under ER stress the cleaved N-terminal cytoplasmic domain translocates into the nucleus.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Ubiquitously expressed with high levels in pancreas and prostate. Expressed at relatively lower levels in brain.
PTM: Controlled by regulated intramembrane proteolysis (RIP). Following ER stress a fragment containing the cytoplasmic transcription factor domain is released by proteolysis. The cleavage is performed sequentially by site-1 and site-2 proteases (PS1 and PS2) and is triggered by translocation to the Golgi apparatus.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the bZIP family. ATF subfamily.
SIMILARITY: Contains 1 bZIP (basic-leucine zipper) domain.
SEQUENCE CAUTION: Sequence=BAC11681.1; Type=Erroneous initiation;

Primer3Plus can design qPCR Primers that straddle exon-exon-junctions, which amplify only cDNA, not genomic DNA.
Click here to load the transcript sequence and exon structure into Primer3Plus

Exonprimer can design one pair of Sanger sequencing primers around every exon, located in non-genic sequence.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
