  ID: ELAV1_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=ELAV-like protein 1; AltName: Full=Hu-antigen R; Short=HuR;
FUNCTION: Involved in 3'-UTR ARE-mediated MYC stabilization. Binds avidly to the AU-rich element in FOS and IL3/interleukin-3 mRNAs. In the case of the FOS AU-rich element, HUR binds to a core element of 27 nucleotides that contain AUUUA, AUUUUA and AUUUUUA motifs. Binds preferentially to the 5'-UUUU[AG]UUU-3' motif in vitro.
SUBUNIT: Identified in a mRNP complex, at least composed of DHX9, DDX3X, ELAVL1, HNRNPU, IGF2BP1, ILF3, PABPC1, PCBP2, PTBP2, STAU1, STAU2, SYNCRIP and YBX1. Interacts with ANP32A, EIF2C1 and EIF2C2.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm. Nucleus. Note=Translocates into the cytoplasm following phosphorylation by MAPKAPK2.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Ubiquitous.
PTM: Phosphorylated by MAPKAPK2.
PTM: Methylated at Arg-217 by CARM1 in macrophages in response to LPS challenge.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the RRM elav family.
SIMILARITY: Contains 3 RRM (RNA recognition motif) domains.
WEB RESOURCE: Name=Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology; URL="http://atlasgeneticsoncology.org/Genes/ELAVL1ID44237ch19p13.html";

-  Primer design for this transcript

Primer3Plus can design qPCR Primers that straddle exon-exon-junctions, which amplify only cDNA, not genomic DNA.
Click here to load the transcript sequence and exon structure into Primer3Plus

Exonprimer can design one pair of Sanger sequencing primers around every exon, located in non-genic sequence.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
