  ID: ERR3_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Estrogen-related receptor gamma; AltName: Full=ERR gamma-2; AltName: Full=Estrogen receptor-related protein 3; AltName: Full=Nuclear receptor subfamily 3 group B member 3;
FUNCTION: Orphan receptor that acts as transcription activator in the absence of bound ligand. Binds specifically to an estrogen response element and activates reporter genes controlled by estrogen response elements (By similarity).
SUBUNIT: Homodimer. Binds TLE1, PNRC1 and PNRC2. Binds GRIP1 (By similarity). Interacts with NRIP1, NCOA1 and NCOR2.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus (Probable).
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in the heart, kidney, brain, lung, bone marrow, adrenal gland, trachea, spinal cord and thyroid gland.
DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Expressed at high levels in fetal brain and also in the fetal kidney, lung and liver.
PTM: Sumoylation on Lys-40 is enhanced by phosphorylation at Ser- 45 and represses transcriptional activity.
PTM: Phosphorylation on Ser-45 enhances sumoylation on Lys-40 thus repressing transcriptional activity.
MISCELLANEOUS: No physiological activating ligand is known for this orphan receptor, but 4-hydroxytamoxifen and diethylstilbestrol act as inverse agonists and deactivate ESRRG.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the nuclear hormone receptor family. NR3 subfamily.
SIMILARITY: Contains 1 nuclear receptor DNA-binding domain.
SEQUENCE CAUTION: Sequence=AAH08218.1; Type=Miscellaneous discrepancy; Note=Contaminating sequence. Potential poly-A sequence; Sequence=BAA74855.2; Type=Erroneous initiation;

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
