-  Comments and Description Text from UniProtKB
  ID: IL13_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Interleukin-13; Short=IL-13; Flags: Precursor;
FUNCTION: Cytokine. Inhibits inflammatory cytokine production. Synergizes with IL2 in regulating interferon-gamma synthesis. May be critical in regulating inflammatory and immune responses.
SUBUNIT: Interacts with IL13RA2.
INTERACTION: P78552:IL13RA1; NbExp=4; IntAct=EBI-1647828, EBI-1391535;
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted.
DISEASE: Defects in IL13 may be a cause of susceptibility to allergic rhinitis (ALRH) [MIM:607154]. Allergic rhinitis is a common disease of complex inheritance and is characterized by mucosal inflammation caused by allergen exposure.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the IL-4/IL-13 family.
CAUTION: It is uncertain whether Met-1 or Met-15 is the initiator.
SEQUENCE CAUTION: Sequence=AAA36107.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Note=Translation N-terminally extended; Sequence=AAA83738.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Note=Translation N-terminally extended; Sequence=AAB01681.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Note=Translation N-terminally extended; Sequence=AAC03535.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Note=Translation N-terminally extended; Sequence=AAK53823.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Note=Translation N-terminally extended; Sequence=CAA48824.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Note=Translation N-terminally extended;

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
