  ID: KI13B_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Kinesin-like protein KIF13B; AltName: Full=Kinesin-like protein GAKIN;
FUNCTION: Involved in reorganization of the cortical cytoskeleton. Regulates axon formation by promoting the formation of extra axons. May be functionally important for the intracellular trafficking of MAGUKs and associated protein complexes.
SUBUNIT: Binds to DLG1 and DLG4. Interacts (when phosphorylated at Ser-1381 and Ser-1410) with 14-3-3.
INTERACTION: Q12959-2:DLG1; NbExp=3; IntAct=EBI-766408, EBI-357500;
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton. Cell projection, axon. Note=accumulates at the distal part of the microtubules in the tips of axons, but not of dendrites.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Ubiquitous.
PTM: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR. Phosphorylated at Ser-1381 and Ser-1410 by MARK2, promoting interaction with 14-3-3 and inhibiting microtubule-dependent accumulation and formation of axons.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the kinesin-like protein family.
SIMILARITY: Contains 1 CAP-Gly domain.
SIMILARITY: Contains 1 FHA domain.
SIMILARITY: Contains 1 kinesin-motor domain.
SEQUENCE CAUTION: Sequence=BAA31614.3; Type=Erroneous initiation;

-  Primer design for this transcript

Primer3Plus can design qPCR Primers that straddle exon-exon-junctions, which amplify only cDNA, not genomic DNA.
Click here to load the transcript sequence and exon structure into Primer3Plus

Exonprimer can design one pair of Sanger sequencing primers around every exon, located in non-genic sequence.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
