  ID: RBBP5_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Retinoblastoma-binding protein 5; Short=RBBP-5; AltName: Full=Retinoblastoma-binding protein RBQ-3;
FUNCTION: In embryonic stem (ES) cells, plays a crucial role in the differentiation potential, particularly along the neural lineage, regulating gene induction and H3 'Lys-4' methylation at key developmental loci, including that mediated by retinoic acid (By similarity). As part of the MLL1/MLL complex, involved in mono-, di- and trimethylation at 'Lys-4' of histone H3. Histone H3 'Lys-4' methylation represents a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional activation.
SUBUNIT: Component of the SET1 complex, at least composed of the catalytic subunit (SETD1A or SETD1B), WDR5, WDR82, RBBP5, ASH2L/ASH2, CXXC1/CFP1, HCFC1 and DPY30. Core component of several methyltransferase-containing complexes including MLL1/MLL, MLL2/3 (also named ASCOM complex) and MLL4/WBP7. Each complex is at least composed of ASH2L, RBBP5, WDR5, DPY30, one or more specific histone methyltransferases (MLL, MLL2/ALR, MLL3 and MLL4/WBP7), and the facultative components PAGR1, C17orf49, CHD8, E2F6, HCFC1, HCFC2, HSP70, INO80C, KDM6A, KANSL1, LAS1L, MAX, MCRS1, MEN1, MGA, MYST1/MOF, NCOA6, PAXIP1/PTIP, PELP1, PHF20, PRP31, RING2, RUVB1/TIP49A, RUVB2/TIP49B, SENP3, TAF1, TAF4, TAF6, TAF7, TAF9, TEX10 and alpha- and beta-tubulin. Interacts with WDR5 and ASH2L; the interaction is direct. Interacts with WDR82 and SETD1A.
INTERACTION: Q9UBL3:ASH2L; NbExp=11; IntAct=EBI-592823, EBI-540797; Q13619:CUL4A; NbExp=3; IntAct=EBI-592823, EBI-456106; Q03164:MLL; NbExp=4; IntAct=EBI-592823, EBI-591370; P61964:WDR5; NbExp=6; IntAct=EBI-592823, EBI-540834;
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Ubiquitously expressed.
PTM: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.
SIMILARITY: Contains 6 WD repeats.

-  Primer design for this transcript

Primer3Plus can design qPCR Primers that straddle exon-exon-junctions, which amplify only cDNA, not genomic DNA.
Click here to load the transcript sequence and exon structure into Primer3Plus

Exonprimer can design one pair of Sanger sequencing primers around every exon, located in non-genic sequence.

You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
