ID:SGK2_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Serine/threonine-protein kinase Sgk2; EC=2.7.11.1; AltName: Full=Serum/glucocorticoid-regulated kinase 2; FUNCTION: Serine/threonine-protein kinase which is involved in the regulation of a wide variety of ion channels, membrane transporters, cell growth, survival and proliferation. Up- regulates Na(+) channels: SCNN1A/ENAC, K(+) channels: KCNA3/Kv1.3, KCNE1 and KCNQ1, amino acid transporter: SLC6A19, glutamate transporter: SLC1A6/EAAT4, glutamate receptors: GRIA1/GLUR1 and GRIK2/GLUR6, Na(+)/H(+) exchanger: SLC9A3/NHE3, and the Na(+)/K(+) ATPase. CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein. ENZYME REGULATION: Two specific sites, one in the kinase domain (Thr-253) and the other in the C-terminal regulatory region (Ser- 416), need to be phosphorylated for its full activation. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm. Nucleus. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Highly expressed in liver, kidney and pancreas, and at lower levels in brain. PTM: Activated by phosphorylation on Ser-416 by an unknown kinase (may be mTORC2 but not confirmed), transforming it into a substrate for PDPK1 which then phosphorylates it on Thr-253. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. AGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 AGC-kinase C-terminal domain. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 protein kinase domain. CAUTION: Not regulated by serum or glucocorticoids.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
