DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Transcription initiation factor TFIID subunit 4; AltName: Full=RNA polymerase II TBP-associated factor subunit C; AltName: Full=TBP-associated factor 4; AltName: Full=Transcription initiation factor TFIID 130 kDa subunit; Short=TAF(II)130; Short=TAFII-130; Short=TAFII130; AltName: Full=Transcription initiation factor TFIID 135 kDa subunit; Short=TAF(II)135; Short=TAFII-135; Short=TAFII135;
FUNCTION: Makes part of TFIID is a multimeric protein complex that plays a central role in mediating promoter responses to various activators and repressors. Potentiates transcriptional activation by the AF-2S of the retinoic acid, vitamin D3 and thyroid hormone.
SUBUNIT: TFIID is composed of TATA binding protein (TBP) and a number of TBP-associated factors (TAFs). Component of the TFTC-HAT complex, at least composed of TAF5L, TAF6L, TADA3L, SUPT3H, TAF2, TAF4, TAF5, GCN5L2/GCN5, TAF10 and TRRAP. Component of some MLL1/MLL complex, at least composed of the core components MLL, ASH2L, HCFC1/HCF1, WDR5 and RBBP5, as well as the facultative components C17orf49, CHD8, E2F6, HSP70, INO80C, KANSL1, LAS1L, MAX, MCRS1, MGA, MYST1/MOF, PELP1, PHF20, PRP31, RING2, RUVB1/TIP49A, RUVB2/TIP49B, SENP3, TAF1, TAF4, TAF6, TAF7, TAF9 and TEX10. Interacts with ATF7; the interaction inhibits ATF7- mediated tranactivation. Interacts with SV40 Large T antigen.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the TAF4 family.
SIMILARITY: Contains 1 TAFH (NHR1) domain.
WEB RESOURCE: Name=NIEHS-SNPs; URL="http://egp.gs.washington.edu/data/taf4/";

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
